Connecting your domain name [NB]

It's important that you connect your online store to a domain as soon as possible so that you get your site indexed.

If you are in North America, use these steps

  1. Buy a domain name for your store through a reliable hosting provider.
  2. Create a CNAME record pointing the custom domain to the shop's *.shoplightspeed.com URL.
  3. Link your domain name to Lightspeed eCom.

1. About buying a domain name

Buying a domain gives you the ownership rights over the root domain, for example rootdomain.com.

As a domain owner you can add any number of subdomains to their root domain, for example subdomain.rootdomain.com. You can name your subdomains however you wish.

2. About creating a CNAME record

The CNAME record always uses a subdomain. Point the CNAME record to the shop's Lightspeed URL.

For example: Your Lightspeed URL is coolbeans.shoplightspeed.com and your custom URL is shop.coolbeans.com.

Create a shop.coolbeans.com CNAME that points to coolbeans.shoplightspeed.com.

Each domain name service has a different method for creating CNAME records, so contact your service provider for the instructions.

The time to live (TTL) for creating a CNAME can be anywhere from immediately to 48 hours. Contact Lightspeed eCom Support if your domain is not active after 48 hours.

3. Link your domain name to Lightspeed eCom

  1. On the left menu of the Back Office click Settings and from Website Settings choose Domains.
  2. Click Add a domain.
  3. Add your custom domain and choose the appropriate primary domain, such as .com, .net, .ca or .nl.
  4. Click Save.

If you are in the UK, use these steps

  1. Configure the connection, either a name server connection or a  DNS connection.
  2. Link your domain name with Lightspeed eCom.

1. To use a name server connection

Most domain name providers let you modify this data yourself. If not, provide this information to your provider:

Primary name server
* Host: **ns1.webshopapp.com**
* IP: **87.250.154.6**

Secondary name server
 * Host: **ns2.webshopapp.com**
 * IP: **87.250.144.167**

Tertiary name server
 * Host: **ns3.webshopapp.com**
 * IP: **87.250.144.169**

To use a DNS connection

Usually you can set up DNS connections yourself with your domain name provider.

Modify or add these records to your DNS record:

Record 1
 * Name: www
 * Type: A
 * Value: 87.250.144.181

Record 2
 * Name: *
 * Type: A
 * Value: 87.250.144.181

Record 3 (when you have to fill in something, then fill in @)
 * Name:
 * Type: A
 * Value: 87.250.144.181
If you use a DNS connection, Lightspeed will host only your online store, and you must make your own arrangements for email. If you have a DNS server and would like to route your email address through Lightspeed eCom, add an MX record and forward it to 10 mail.webshopapp.com. Enter @ in the record name field.
Here's an example.

2. To link your domain name to Lightspeed eCom

  1. Configure your settings with your hosting provider.
  2. On the left menu of the Back Office click Settings and from Website Settings choose Domains.
  3. Click Add a domain and in the Domain name box add your domain name, and choose the domain suffix.
