Adding phrases and translations [NB]

Lightspeed eCom comes with a set of standard phrases and translations that you can modify to suit your needs. These phrases appear in areas such as About Us, Customer Service and the check-out screens.

Note: Changing the wording does not alter the function of a page or option. If you modify a name in the check-out area, the input field remains unchanged.

To edit a phrase

  1. On the left menu of the Back Office click Content > Translations and at the top of the screen click Override a translation.
  2. Select the word or phrase you want to modify.



    • Translation to override – Search for the phrase you want to translate and as you type the list is auto-populated with possible matches. 



      Select the option you want to change.



    • Translation to – Enter the new translation here. If you have added multiple languages to your shop, you will can change the translation for each language. This field cannot be left blank.



      My shopping cart will now be changed to Shopping cart.

  3. Save your changes.

Add a phrase or translation

If the phrase you want to work with is not listed in the Override a translation results you can create it as a new phrase. 

  1. On the left menu of the Back Office click Content > Translations and at the top of the screen click Add a custom translation.
  2. Add your new phrase. 



    • Translation key – Enter the English word or sentence you want to translate. For example, RSS Feed, an option that is available within several themes, does not have a standard translation, so you would enter RSS Feed in the Translation key field. Note: You must include the option in full, as just entering RSS here will result in a translation that does not work.



    • Translation to - Enter the new translation. If you have added multiple languages in your shop, you will can enter a translation for each  language.
  3. Save your changes.
